Stylist David Vandewal Is A Very Talented Man

This editorial story "Going Places" was run in The New York Times "T Magazine" recently, and I'm PRETTY OBSESSED. The stylist David Vandelwal is... OMG, REAALLY good.

What an eye. His use of colour play and proportion are spot on. And I love how the strong female character shines through. Their concept? "A woman who travels the world and wears her souvenirs on her sleeves."

She is a warrior woman from many, many years into the future! The world has fallen apart around her, and all she has to survive against the elements are these treasures she found in old trunks- left behind by rich, snobbish ladies who died in the apocalypse..! She uses these incredible pieces to combat the urban wilderness, to keep warm against the freezing nights and to protect herself from prowling scavengers!!
Look at that attention to detail!!

So here's whats up:
"Having paid his dues working as a designer for Dries Van Noten, Raf Simons and Karl Lagerfeld, the Belgian-born, New York-based stylist David Vandewal has an innate sense of how to interpret fashion's whimsical moods. Vandewal, a graduate of Antwerp's Royal Academy of Fine Arts, is a contributor to i-D, 10, Vogue Italia and Arena Homme Plus." - New York Times.

I was just stalking him and I was looking through his biography and portfolio on Art+Commerce and I REALIZED THAT HE STYLED THIS EDITORIAL way back in the day for i-D magazine.

"Isabeli" by Cedric Buchet - i-D Magazine February 2008
I'm going to be real with you. TWICE in my WHOLE life have I ripped pages from a fashion magazine and stuck them on my wall. I can't remember the first time but I remember this one. I had just left my small home town to arrive in THE BIG CITY, SYDNEY to try and 'make it' as a stylist. And I when I moved into my teeny tiny dirty little room I stuck these pictures on my wall, and I thought to myself- "One day I want to make something as brilliant as this."

And now I'm in New York city, on the way to living my dream :)

So David Vandewal if you ever read this: KUDOS to you.
