Some people have a real problem with sneaker heels.
I am not one of those people.

And I'm gonna tell you WHY. (I know you didn't ask, but this is my blog and I'll do what ever I want!)
Besides, they get a pretty rough go of it and I think SOMEONE needs to come to their defense.

Foremostly, I like them on a philosophical level, if its possible to like a shoe philosophically. They are something we all know- the humble sneaker- which has been REINTERPRETED to become something completely different! And to me, that is what fashion is all about! It's about questioning the 'rules' and pushing them to another level.

Secondly, I'm a bit of fashion shit-stirrer- I also love them because people hate them so much. But this goes beyond purely being contrary, it's to raise the question of what defines fashion and good taste.

But it's not enough to just like something in theory, I also like the way they look. They look tough and cute! YEAH, I SAID THAT.

Now that I have given an intellectual argument as to WHY I LOVE these shoes I shall present you with best ones I have found online. Most of these are all imitation of course- cause if we're going down this slippery slope towards "bad taste", then we might as well go the whole way.
I'd wear these with hot black mini dress

With tight high waisted acid wash jeans, a cute titty tank top and vintage costume earrings
I'd wear these with a pair of massive baggy basketball shorts, a tight tank top and monobrow
These are fetish, so I'd wear em to bed, thnx.
except the last pair, which I designed for Tina Kalivas.

Do you like sneaker heels or not? Why?

Love ya guts,

I've never actually owned a pair, but they've always been on my "lust have' list. There's just something so very unexpected about high-heeled sneakers that appeals to me.

I remember having a thing for those Timberland stilettos when Pammy wore them way back. I'm definitely a fan of utility/sporty/ghetto/pop chic. Sneakers are unavoidably appealing in their usual state, slap a heel on, I'm sold. Definitely leaning towards 'bad taste', but geez, isn't that term bad taste in itself?! I think so. I'm glad you brought this frowned upon gem to our attention Ms. x

They aren't the ugliest shoes I have ever seen, but they're not far off.

I don't wear heels, so it's unlikely I'll ever swoon over a pair, but sneakers are fashionable flats. Heels are seen as THE shoe for women, and as a result all the interesting patterns and colours and embellishments go on them. Sneakers are colourful and bold and fun, but I can still walk in them. Let me have this one thing!

That said, those heeled Air Jordans are ok. JUST OK.

Frances, I'm interested in your opinion, could you explain to me why precisely you think they are so ugly? I'm genuinely interested.
Is it because, as you say, "sneakers are fashionable flats", and flats only? Why can't a sneaker be a heel too?
You may think I'm getting too deep into it here, but I argue the point because this applies for all fashion, beauty and art that re-interprets the standard. Often they are vilified and dismissed as ugly, merely because the public doesn't want to expand their opinion beyond the status quo.
Plus the notion of BAD TASTE is something that interests me greatly..

I'm trying to think of a smart answer to why I think they're so ugly but I can't. They just are!

I suppose I'm not starting from a great place, because I'm so prejudiced against heels. I think most heels are ugly. I think the way they shape the leg is ugly.

I like what (flat) sneakers do to a leg. I like that legs are kind of shrunk, or stubbified. I like really chunky ones that stick out far from the ankle, being these thick hypercolour blocks.

I want to stress, though: sneaker heels are ugly TO ME (I didn't make that clear enough in my last comment). "Why can't a sneaker be a heel too?" - Of course a sneaker can, and obviously is, and I like that they exist.

My boyfriend's an industrial designer and I'm with you on fashion, beauty and art reinterpreting the standard. It's the wildest designs that push us forward. I love modern art because so much has a sense of humour, so now that I think about it I understand the appeal of the sneaker heels.

But I won't wear them.

Word Frances, thanks for taking the time to weigh in. I guess sometimes a person can't help what you like and what you don't like, it's a visceral experience. My main aim is urge us all to ask ourselves WHY we react a certain way to a piece of art or fashion, because with these questions gives us a greater understanding of human nature and how we interact with the world around us.
Nice chatting, peeps! :)
